WWE released 10 wrestlers yesterday. They included:  Samoa Joe, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Mickie James, Chelsea Green, Tucker, Kalisto, Mojo Rawley, Bo Dallas and Wesley Blake.

I get WWE is a business and employees get laid off due to budgetary issues. However, WWE lied. Despite the Coronavirus pandemic forcing WWE to do its weekly programming in empty arenas, the promotion actually had its most profitable year to date. In 2020, they made $238.2 million in revenue which is pretty decent considering that they had no live events. Although it was a decrease of $86.6 million from last year, WWE still made its money.

However, something in January happened. WWE sold the its WWE Network to NBC and its streaming service Peacock for $1B. Despite the megadeal, many WWE fans were upset with the move. Not all of the content from the now defunct WWE Network made it to Peacock (although they promised that all of the content will be available by August). Also, NBC is censoring all of the past promos that are considered to be offensive.

So my question is: Where did the $1B go? And why did they had to cut these superstars? I would not be writing this blog if WWE didn’t had the Peacock $1B deal.

All of these wrestlers will find a new home. And they will flourish in AEW, NJPW, Impact and other wrestling promotions.
